This exhaust Y-Pipe is a common failure on trucks with higher mileage and age. The exhaust bellows crack which leads to exhaust leaks and loss of low end power due to reduced exhaust flow to the turbo. Signs of a leaking or cracked Y pipe will leave black carbon around the firewall, turbo and FICM.
IPR also recommend replacing the up pipe part #3C3Z-6K854-AA for 03-04 with the round body EGR cooler or part #5C3Z-6K854-AA for 2005-2010 with the square body EGR Cooler, the up pipe is bolted to this Y pipe as a complete exhaust system.
